In my work “theydream,” I explore the body as a place of home—something that was never simply given, but had to be fought for, shaped, and transformed. After years of estrangement, I have come to experience my body, since my mastectomy, as inhabitable—a place I can remain, a place I choose. The photographs take the form of staged self-portraits set within the natural landscape of my hometown: a village near Fulda. It is a place that shaped me, yet whose familiar imagery long stood at a distance from any true sense of belonging. By placing my body within this space—both intimate and estranged—a dialogue unfolds between past and present, between origin and becoming. Moments of humor and exaggerated staging weave through the work, gently disrupting its gravity—small fractures that invite a smile, allowing the weight of the subject to open and breathe. The images speak of vulnerability and self-assertion, of the question of where home begins—and of the possibility of finding it within one’s own body.
